Proposed LM/X 2.1a Features
-----------------------------
Like LAN Manager for UNIX version 2.0, LAN Manager for UNIX 2.1a is
a joint development effort by Microsoft and NCR. As such, OEMs may
choose to license the software from either company. Hewlett Packard
will license the code from Microsoft and is targeting to have a
LM/X 2.1a product on HP-UX RISC systems by mid-year 1993.
NCR is responsible for the development of LAN Manager for UNIX systems.
This development is based upon Microsoft's LAN Manager for OS/2
requirements and any additional requirements agreed to by Microsoft
and NCR. This development process helps ensure consistency and
compatibility between LAN Manager for OS/2 and LAN Manager for
UNIX systems with respect to application programming interfaces
(APIs), interoperability, features, and functions.
Hewlett Packard is a member of the Open LAN Manger Council which was
formed by 24 companies to help ensure interoperability between
OEM versions of LAN Manager. It is through this organization that
HP can influence enhancements to the Microsoft product.
Following are the most asked for features of LAN Manager V2.1a
for UNIX Systems. Microsoft and NCR are still negotiating the content
of this release and thus the following is subject to change.
